Parents cannot choose
Parents cannot choose their own school for their child. The fact is that municipal schools accept students at the place of residence. And for the child to go to the school to which his parents dream of giving him, the family will have to move to the area of this educational institution. If you don’t want to move, but the school where the local department of education automatically determines the child, there’s another option - go to a private school.
A place at school can be won in the lottery. In the USA there is such a category of schools as charter. They live on funds from the state and private investors. In fact, these are experimental schools with different approaches to learning. For example, some of them provide for training of different ages, some specialize in art or the natural sciences, somewhere there are no calls or changes. Education at such a school is free. But due to the fact that the number of places is limited, and there are many who want to get there, schools arrange a lottery once a year, during which random selection of students takes place.
Parents are responsible for child absenteeism. If a child does not go to school for an extended amount of time, this can have serious consequences. Parents of truants can be punished not only by public censure, but even by a large fine or imprisonment.
The composition of classes and teachers change every year. This happens before the start of the next school year. The reorganization of classes is done in order to balance the gender composition, racial, as well as the level of training.
Some universities have their own strange traditions. So, students at Ohio University arrange a massive swim in the lake before the American football match. Senior students at Stanford University on the night of the first autumn full moon kiss freshmen. And at Harvard, the night before exams, students gather and run naked around the university courtyard.
To get to the university, you do not need to take entrance exams. In the graduation class, students write various test papers, the results of which they then send to colleges and universities in which they would like to enter. And on the basis of these works, they decide whether they need such a student or not.
In schools, the class schedule does not change. Before the start of the school year, the student selects the subjects that he wants to study. And every day he will have all these items, moreover, in the same order. Schedules, as a rule, can change only in the next semester.
